Jacques Toulemonde

/ Jacques Toulemonde, grandit à Bogotá au sein d’une famille franco-colombienne, avant de partir en France en août 2001. A Paris, il s’inscrit en hypokhâgne, classe préparatoire littéraire, puis en Lettres Modernes à la Sorbonne.

Entre 2003 et 2012, il travaille pendant dix ans comme premier assistant réalisateur sur plusieurs long-métrages tels que: Los Viajes del Viento de Ciro Guerra, La Sociedad del Semáforo de Rubén Mendoza et Roa de Andi Baiz, entre autres. En janvier 2010, il réalise le court- métrage Un juego de niños, tourné à Bogotá et dont la post-production a eu lieu à Paris. Cette coproduction entre Janus Films en Colombie et Noodles Production en France, a obtenu l’aide à la production du Fondo para el Desarrollo Cinematográfico de Colombie, l’aide au film court du Departement de la Seine-Saint-Denis, et le soutien de France Télévisions. Le film, lauréat du Prix à la Qualité du CNC, compte plus de vingt-cinq sélections en festivals et notamment au festival de Clermont-Ferrand où il a reçu le prix de l’ACSE.

Pendant le printemps 2014, il réalise Anna, un road movie entre la France et la Colombie qui raconte le voyage d’une jeune colombienne en quête de l’amour de son fils. Ce film a reçu trois prix Macondo de l’Académie de cinéma colombienne, incluant Meilleur Scénario, et a été nommé aux Goya d’Espagne comme Meilleur Film Ibéroaméricain.

En 2017, il écrit et réalise la série web de dix épisodes de dix minutes, Camionero, produite par Evidencia Films pour Studio+. Cette série a participé à la première édition de Cannes Séries et au Festival de la Rochelle.

En parallèle à sa carrière de réalisateur, Jacques Toulemonde travaille aussi comme scénariste et écrivain. Auteur des scénarios de ses films, il est aussi co- scénariste de El Abrazo de la Serpiente de Ciro Guerra, lauréat du prix Alfred P. Sloan au Meilleur Scénario du Festival de Sundance 2016, et nominé aux Oscars comme Meilleur Film Etranger 2016. Pájaros de Verano, réalisé par Ciro Guerra et co-écrit par Jacques Toulemonde, a fait l’ouverture de la Quinzaine des Réalisateurs en 2018.

/ Jacques Toulemonde was born on August 10, 1983 in Bogotá in a French family. He graduated from the Lycée Français Louis Pasteur and obtained his baccalaureate with honors, before leaving for France in August 2001. In Paris, he enrolled in hypokhagne, preparatory literary class, then in Modern Letters at the Sorbonne, and then associated in several projects of the national school of cinema La fémis. He has behind him an experience of assistant director on different projects. In 2003, he began his career as a coach for the non-professional actors of the Colombian film Works, we know when it starts … by Brigitte Roüan with Carole Bouquet, Aldo Maccione and Hugh Grant. This film was selected at the Directors’ Fortnight during Cannes 2004. In 2006, Jacques Toulemonde participates as first assistant director in the short film Como todo el mundo by Franco Lolli, rewriting with the director a part of this adolescence that they spent together. This film has received more than twenty-five awards including the Grand Jury Prize of the Clermont-Ferrand Festival in 2008. He has also been assistant director on the short films Soñadores by Vlamyr Vizcaya; The Misión of Franco Lolli; the music video for Squid and the Stereo Mad Chicken; The big ball of Sebastien Hestin (official selection at the Lodz festival), among others. He returned to Colombia

in 2007 and worked on the feature film Muertos de susto by Harold Trompetero, produced by Dago García, as casting director and second assistant director. In May 2008, he worked as a first assistant director on the feature film by Ciro Guerra Los Viajes del Viento, un certain regard’s official selection at Cannes 2009. During the first half of 2009, he participated in the filming of the film La Sociedad del Semáforo de Rubén Mendoza. 0In December 2007, he finished editing his first feature film as director, Dérive. This film, produced independently and shot in Paris, tells the story of Leo, a man who gets lost in his loneliness and alcohol while he begins a romantic relationship with the wife of his best friend. The soundtrack of the film, designed by Jacques Toulemonde, is recorded in Bogotá. Dérive was successfully presented at the Cinematheque of Bogotá. In parallel with his experience in the cinema, he writes several short stories and the novel Diatriba of an Idiota, in the process of being published.
